The Combu Route is a journey through the senses of the living forest, guided by the stories of its inhabitants and guardians, where each stop is a chapter that reveals knowledge, flavors, belonging, and resistance.

The island is a perfect destination for those seeking a balance between nature, culture, and gastronomy, in a sensory immersion in the riverside identity. In this place, nature is both guide and principle, where tradition is renewed without losing its essence, and where subtlety has a special place. This is an invitation to live experiences that translate sophistication into emotional memories, care, and transformation. Here, time slows down, and authenticity is our compass.

Here, rivers, boreholes, and streams are the paths that connect communities, delicate ecosystems, and genuine stories. A living, abundant, and precious place, where the connections between human beings and nature are strengthened by the coexistence of tradition and modernity.

We welcome you to Combú Island, a territory with a soul.

DAY 1

8am | Departure from the Hotel in Belém towards the Waterway Terminal
9am | Boarding at Ruy Barata Waterway Terminal - Princesa Isabel Square

We’ll start our journey to Combú Island by crossing the majestic Guamá River, a 15-minute journey where the shades of nature begin to reveal themselves as we head towards the quietest part of the island, the Piriquitaquara Igarapé. As we move away from the urban environment and into the watery “streets” of Combú, we can observe the riverside houses that look down on us from the banks amidst the vegetation, the movement of the boats that travel along these paths, life naturally flowing in this environment where land and water have blurred boundaries. There we can see the colorful houses of the Street River, painted by artists from Pará, and the nature that calls us among the aningas and açaí trees full of stories.

9:30am to 12:30pm | Ygara Artesanal - Açaí Trail and Scent Bath

Arriving in the community of Piriquitaquara, we will be welcomed by Charles and his family and will learn about the traditional management of the Açaí, a fruit that is the basis of the Amazon’s livelihood and a fundamental part of Pará’s food culture. At Ygara, we’ll learn about riverside life and the daily life of a family that teaches us about the delicate relationship between human beings and nature. We’ll go into the forest and witness the skill and technique required to harvest the fruit, and learn about the personal story of a relationship with the island marked by the transition from predatory forest management to the sustainable valorization of local culture and biodiversity.

On the way back from the trail, we will have the opportunity to participate in the processing of açaí and its tasting in the Pará style. At the end of the visit, we will be presented with the traditional “Banho de Cheiro”(Scent Bath) made with Amazonian herbs, to open the way and perfume our stay in this very special place in the Para Amazon.

12:30pm to 3pm | Lunch and River Bath at Canto dos Pássaros or Boá na Ilha

Our journey continues along the Igarapé Piriquitaquara towards a riverside restaurant for an invigorating swim in the river and lunch with typical delicacies from the rich local cuisine.

At the restaurant, we will be greeted by the owner, who will open the doors of his house to welcome everyone with joy and warmth. The menu, based on Amazonian fish and traditional ingredients, is the responsibility of the in-house chef, who takes care of the delicacies served to visitors. While we wait for lunch to be prepared, the calm river invites us to a refreshing bath that energizes and relaxes at the same time. Then you just have to open yourself up to the aromas and flavors of the delicious meal that awaits you.

3pm to 4pm | Andiroba Experience at AME

After lunch, we will visit the production of “golden oil”, extracted from andiroba – an emblematic tree of Combú Island. A group of women from the community, founders of the Combu Extractive Women’s Association (AME), live and work there.

The traditional andiroba management process, rescued by AME, involves ancestral knowledge, feminine strength and healing power, contributing to the local bioeconomy. Through collectivity, these women combine income generation with the preservation of the species, promoting the sustainable use of the plant and the production of its derivatives, which are rich in medicinal properties.

At the association’s headquarters and store, they share knowledge passed down through generations, present their products and invite us to make natural packaging using cocoa leaves. An experience that values sustainability and care at every stage. And, of course, the products will also be available for purchase!

4:15pm | Hotel check-in and sunset on the river

We will leave the Piriquitaquara Igarapé to check into our hotel in time to enjoy the sunset by the river. We’ll be able to watch the sun set on the island, witnessing the change in colors, sounds and movement in this transition from day to night in an environment surrounded by nature. A perfect welcome to relax and prepare for dinner.

7pm to 10pm | Night Trail and Pará Night at Casa Kayré

We will be taken to Casa Kayré, where an exciting night trail and gastronomic celebration await us. This space, dedicated to riverside culture, combines art and sustainability in a sensory experience. Dinner will be a true immersion, awakening aromas, flavors, colors, textures, sounds and rhythms that reveal the richness of the Pará Amazon.

It will be an evening in which Combú’s unique gastronomy promotes a meeting between tradition and contemporaneity. The possibilities are endless: fish from Amazonian waters, traditional herbs, exotic fruits and various flours are transformed into memorable delicacies, capable of stimulating the imagination and touching the spirit.

10:30pm | Night at Olaria River Hostel or Ilha Branca

It’s time to relax, listening to the sounds of the forest, contemplating the starry night sky or, perhaps, enjoying the great Amazon rainfall over the forest. Let Combú’s nocturnal atmosphere lull you to sleep and allow yourself to connect with the essence of life, which pulses from the forest into us.

An invigorating evening, ideal for awakening new sensations.

DAY 2

8am | Breakfast and check-out of hotel

We’ll start the second day of the Combú Route with a typical Pará breakfast. Take your time savoring the delicacies at the table and let yourself be surprised by new flavors.

If the tide is right, a morning swim in the river or a moment of contemplation on the balcony will be the best wake-up call.

After checking out, we’ll set off for the first experience of the day at Igarapé Combu, the best known on the island.

10am to 11:30am | Biojewelry Experience

We walk along the Combu Igarapé to its end, along a path where riverside life follows the rhythm of the tides and the daily life of the local residents. Our destination is the Casa Ateliê Biojóias do Combú, owned by artisan, visual artist and riverside entrepreneur Sílvia, who has been producing bio-jewelry, soaps and natural products for around 10 years.

In her studio, integrated into the forest, seeds, leaves, vines and fruit from Amazonian species are handled with care and creativity. Through a handmade process, threads, seeds and fibers are transformed into necklaces, bracelets, earrings and decorative objects. In the backyard, herbs are harvested to produce natural soaps with therapeutic properties – sensitive and sustainable work that values and preserves local biodiversity and is shared in creative workshops.

In this inspiring space, we will make a special piece to take away as a souvenir, experiencing in practice the possibilities of transforming raw materials from the forest into art.

11:30am to 3pm | Alma Caboca and Lunch at Saldosa Maloca

At the end of the morning, we’ll head to the Saldosa Maloca Eco-Restaurant, where, as well as tasting traditional riverside cuisine, we’ll learn about sustainability and bioeconomy practices at the pioneering enterprise on Combú Island.

The reception and welcome is carried out by the owner, who for 40 years has kept alive the riverside gastronomic tradition started by her parents. Dona Prazeres harmonizes tradition and innovation by introducing sustainable practices and solutions into the enterprise, such as the implementation of biodigesters to transform organic waste into cooking gas. All this experience will be presented in the Alma Caboca Experience, while lunch is being prepared.

3pm to 5:30pm | The Bioeconomy of Chocolate in the Daughter of Combú

To round off our journey on the Combú Route, a learning experience through a dive into the possibilities of genuine Pará cacao: the Chocolate Bioeconomy. The experience takes place under the guidance of Dona Nena, a rural producer, visionary entrepreneur and daughter of the island, who proudly named her enterprise Casa do Chocolate Filha do Combu. Recognized nationally for the chocolates she has been producing for 20 years, Dona Nena is a reference in the Amazonian cocoa and organic chocolate sector, an award-winner and a partner of renowned chefs in Pará’s gastronomy.

The activity includes a trail of knowledge and discoveries about the management of cocoa, its properties and forms of production, with a visit to the factory, tasting and harmonization and the production of the chocolate itself.

With this experience, we will take the energy of native cocoa and the transforming power of Combu into our hearts.

5:45pm - Return to Belém

We say goodbye to Combú Island at dusk, crossing the Guamá River back to Belém with the awareness of the interdependence between human beings and nature and the certainty that we are part of this great web of biodiversity. We’ll be carrying memories, lessons learned and the responsibility to preserve the forest and its traditions.
